The Junior Shooting program is a fun shoot for juniors to introduce them to the shooting sport.
Bring your kids to the range and get them interested in the sport that you enjoy!
Remember, they are our future - bring a "kid" - they have a ball!
New shooters are welcome - bring a friend - non-members are welcome.
If you don't have equipment, DCPA will provide airguns, firearms, ammo, and safety gear for the shoot.
Participation
The DCPA Junior Shooting Club is a fun and educational shooting activity that is open to the public.
We will be meeting the third Saturday of the month, March through October, from 12:30pm-3:30pm.
All boys and girls age 6 -20 years are welcome to participate. You do not need to attend every month.
Participation fee is FREE. That's right No Charge!
Safety Course
A Safety Course is required, and will be conducted, for all participants the first time they come to shoot with the club.
Parents must attend the safety course.
At the successful completion of this course, a wallet sized card and certificate will be presented to each student.
Equipment
All equipment will be provided including Eye Protection, Hearing Protection, Firearms, and Ammunition.
Participants are allowed to bring their own equipment if preferred (must be staff approved).
Course of Fire
- Ages 6 and up can shoot Air Rifles
- Ages 12 and up can shoot .22 caliber Rifles
- Ages 14 and up can shoot .22 caliber Pistols
- Targets used will be paper targets and metal "Silhouette" targets for air rifle shooters.
All participants will start out using air rifles and will have the option to shoot the .22 rifles and pistols as they progress in skill and age.
Notice: Juniors ages 14 - 20 who have successfully completed the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course can shoot .22 caliber pistols. Must make arrangements before the event.
What are the Range Commands?
There are three range commands:
"Ready" - Means that the relay has been called to the firing line, and those shooters may handle and load their guns.
"Fire" - Starts the firing period.
"Cease Fire" - Ends the time firing period, at which time all guns must be unloaded and placed on the bench and not handled.
What Are The Requirements Prior To Shooting?
A safety Instruction class is mandatory for first-time shooters.
This instruction course will be given at the beginning of the shooting session for anyone who needs it.
Free instruction and guidance is given throughout the course of fire.
Junior Shooting events are scheduled once a month from spring to fall.
Please refer to the Calendar on our website for the next Junior Shooting event.
